Special Connection

It's that time of the week again I am going for my weekly visit to Seaside Simplicity for Flashback Friday.

I was going through some photos to find an inspiration for today's post and I came across a very tender moment in time that made me cry then and again now.  It was 10 years ago and my first grandsons christening day.  My dad had traveled from Long Island to Upstate NY to attend along with my sister and brother-in-law.  It was a big day all around because this would be the first time that my 86 year old dad would meet his first great grandchild.

After the church baptism we went back to my daughters house and I asked my dad if he wanted to hold our new baby.  He was a bit nervous, he had not held a baby for over 25 years, but he agreed.  My grandson at this point had, had it.  It was a rough day.  Getting dressed up in uncomfortable duds and getting holy water poured over his head did not make for a fun baby day.  As I placed my new boy in my Dad's arms my grandson was screaming.

Not a happy boy

A little eye to eye contact

Some man to man discussion

And a smile to steal the deal

It was so sweet to see that connection between my 86 year old dad and my 3 month old grandson.  My dad is still going strong at 96 and has been lucky enough to have had some more visits with his first grandchild.

  2. What a wonderful story...a good example of a picture (or in this case a series of pictures) being worth a thousand words. What a lovely presentation these photos would be all in a row in a single frame! Thank you for sharing Maryann!

  7. A wonderful group of photos! That's amazing the look on the baby's face - do they have a special bond now that baby's older?

  8. This photo series is priceless, Mary Ann! I believe some magical sort of communication occurs when elders and newborns get together. (... and that's for them to know and us to only guess. lol!)
